(Aug. 29) – Continuing a tradition of Italian film retrospectives from the archives of the legendary Cinecittà Luce in Rome, organized in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Houston and the Italian Cultural Institute of Los Angeles this year the Museum of Fine Arts of Houston spotlights the prolific and often-controversial Bernardo Bertolucci. The exhibition is titled “The Nonconformist: A Bernardo Bertolucci Retrospective” and will feature the screening of a dozen films by Bertolucci at the MFAH Brown Auditorium over four weekends. Director Bernardo Bertolucci, internationally renowned and Oscar-winning for “The Last Emperor” in 1987, was recently celebrated with a major retrospective at the BFI Southbank in London and a tribute at the MoMA in New York and received the Palme d’Or for his career at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011. The opening night, on September 7, will be attended by the Director of the MFAH, Gary Tinterow, the Consul General of Italy, Fabrizio Nava, and Professor Alessandro Carrera from the University of Houston.
