(11 set) – The Italian theater will participate in the 46th edition of the International Theatre Festival in Belgrade, BITEF, organized in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade. From September 12 to 26, the Festival will host, as usual, innovative and avant-garde theater productions. Italian experimental theater will be represented by the Societas Raffaello Sanzio, directed by Romeo Castellucci, who will present “The minister’s black veil”, performance inspired by an episode in the life of painter Mark Rothko. In 1958, the The Four Seasons restaurant in New York asked Rothko to do some paintings for the large walls of its rooms. Rothko painted several pictures that were some of the most intense of his life: huge, in dark colors tending toward black. While painting these pictures, however, Rothko was having deep doubts and reached a different level of conscience in relation to the purpose his painting served, to this place and its customers, whom he began to consider bourgeois and superficial, to the point of wanting to do something to ruin the appetite of every customer. Subsequently he reached the even more extreme decision of not giving any of the paintings to the restaurant. Today these canvasses are mostly kept at the Tate Modern. (red)
