(Sept. 17) – It just ended the seventh campaign of excavations conducted by the University of Macerata in the Roman city of Hadrianopolis (Sofratikë, Albania). At the end of the works last Saturday, it was staged at the ancient theater of the city, within the Project Rebed, an evening of music and literature dedicated to the Emperor Hadrian and entitled ” Sul Sentiero di Adriano 2012 – Ne Gjurmet e Adrianit 2012” (On the Path of Hadrian).” Recently restored thanks to the project funded by Regione Marche and coordinated by the University itself, and involving the IMK in Tirana, the Institute of Monuments of Culture of Gjirokastra, the region of Gjirokastra, the University of Gjirokaster, the Association Horizont, the provinces of Macerata and Ascoli Piceno, the City of Urbisaglia, the University of Camerino, the Association Sferisterio, the Association of Museums of the Province of Macerata and Legambiente Marche, the theater of the ancient city was the fascinating scenario where, after two thousand years of silence, music and dance returned to be protagonist. “Our duty as archaeologists cannot end in research and in scientific publications. A complex society as ours, in which the protection of cultural heritage tends to be subject to other requirements, requires researchers to put the valorization as one the main objectives. Only spreading knowledge as much as possible and proposing different models of resource and land management, we can think about a modern economic and cultural development, without which our own research would lose much of its meaning. ” These are the words of Roberto Perna, director of the Mission. “This project is important for the growth and touristic, scientific and academic development of Albania,” said Rector Louis Lackey. “It emphasizes the purpose of our University to create educational and scientific exchanges with neighboring Countries, especially with those on the other side of the Adriatic. Who saw the area of the excavations in 2005, when the archaeological mission started, he has notice a radical and positive change.” (red)
