(Sept. 21) – It just started the sixth edition of the Nuovo Cinema Italiano Film Festival at the College of Charleston. Until September 23, the Sottile Theatre – formerly known as the Gloria Theatre and asset to the College since 1927 – will host a retrospective on Italian Cinema, offering a wide range of recent movies. Born in 2007, the Festival has turned into a popular cultural event, focusing on the promotion of Italian culture and Italian Language studies. Since the establishment over thirty years ago of the Spoleto Festival USA in town, Charleston has seen a constant growth of its role as a cultural bridge between Italy and the United States, and the recurring success of this Festival is a valid proof of the vitality that this transatlantic bond enjoys. Four directors will attend this edition of Festival: Edoardo De Angelis, Paola Randi, Tonino Zangardi and Nino Cirasola, who will engage in conversations and debates with other cinema experts and the public. Among the thirteen films to be screened at the Festival, there will be “A quiet life” by Claudio Cupellini, “Heavenly body” by Alice Rohrwacher, “Scialla!” by Francesco Bruni and “We have a Pope” by Nanni Moretti.
