Oct. 17 – From November 1, ENI will begin selling gas and electricity to retail and business clients in Belgium, under its own brand name.
The aim is to become one of the major retail operators in the country, and consolidate its business leadership. In 2008, ENI bought Distrigas out and effectively became the main retail and business energy supplier. At the beginning of 2012, ENI bought Nuon Belgium, a company also operating in the retail and business sector. These acquisitions represent ENI’s biggest investment in the sector, outside their domestic market. In 2011, Nuon Belgium and Distrigas obtained astonishing results, with total gas sold reaching 314 million cube meters and 4.680 GWh of electricity sold to Nuon Belgium clients, and
14 billion cube meters of gas to Distrigas clients. The two companies will come together under the ENI brand name on November 1. ENI, who currently has 600.000 clients in Belgium, has a goal of 1 million clients before 2016 – meaning 12% of the Belgian retail market – by offering innovative services and products and increasing transparency for prices to local consumers. The end goal is to become the second retail operator in Belgium.
