Nov. 20 – The cooperation between the Giffoni Experience and the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (Qatar) continues with the third edition of the Giffoni Doha Experience, scheduled for November 22 to 24. The event is part of the fourth edition of the Doha Film Festival (17-24 November), born from the partnership with Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film Festival.
It’s one of the most important cultural events in the Middle East, with hundreds of international premieres and high rate of participation from stars like Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Freida Pinto and Kevin Spacey. In 2010, the presence of some judges from the Giffoni Film Festival gave birth to the relationship between Doha and Giffoni, which immediately resulted in a delegation of Qatari children participating as jury members in the GFF. Thanks to its success, the experience was replicated in two subsequent editions. Last year, the Doha Tribeca Film Festival dedicated three days to Giffoni’s activities. The young jurors will be divided into two groups: from 8 to 12 years and from 13 to 18 years. The partnership between the Doha Film Institute and the Giffoni Experience is a step towards the establishment of a film culture not yet fully entrenched in Qatar. The DFI decided to focus on the cinema industry in a country where the seventh art still does not enjoy the right consideration. That is why Qatar decided, through the Doha Film Institute and the Giffoni Experience, to invest in film and young people.
