(12 Dec) – The Venice Biennale cultural project to promote and disseminate Italian cinema in the world first touched Brazil and then China and Russia. This year, the event will add a new country: South Korea that will show movies from the Biennale’s 69th edition – year in which the Gold Lion went to the Korean director Kim Ki-Duk for his film “Pieta.” From now until January 6, 2013 the Venice Festival will be held in Seoul, organized by the Biennale in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Seoul and the Seoul Cinemathèque. The event will bring a varied selection of Italian films from this year’s festival’s edition, as well as a selection of movies from the retrospective “80!” prepared for the 80th anniversary of the Biennale.
The films chosen for the latter are selected based on rarity, after the Biennale’s Archive Collection of Contemporary Arts copies were restored. The 69th edition of the Venice Film Festival was held at the Lido from August 29 to September 8, 2012; it was directed by Alberto Barbera and organized by the Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta.
