Dec. 20 – A large spruce 20 meters high from Trentino reached Poland in recent days. It will give a touch of Christmas spirit in the center of Krakow, the birthplace of Pope John Paul II, in Franciszkanska Square, the historic area of the city that hosts among others the Bishop’s Palace and the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. The initiative was launched in Trentino, and it is the result of a special relationship between local administrators of Primiero with Cardinal Dziwisz Stanisaw, once secretary to Pope John Paul II and now an eminent exponent of the Catholic Church in Poland. The collaboration was established between some municipalities (Transacqua, Fiera, Mezzano, Imer, Canal San Bovo, Sagron Mis, dell’Apt di San Martino di Castrozza, Passo Rolle, Primiero and Vanoi), and several local companies led by Claudio Lucian, President of the Artisan Association in Primiero and city councilor in Transacqua. The spruce, 20.50 meters high, was taken in the Passo Cereda at 1400 meters above sea level and was sectioned into two parts in order to be transported in a truck without resorting to special transport. It then arrived in Krakow, to Piazza Franciszkanska, where it will be reassembled on site by two steel brackets by the Fire Department, supported by three Primiero technicians. Finally it will be placed in front of what was once the window from which Wojtyla looked at the city.
