Jan. 15 – AMREF (African Medical and Research Foundation) programs for children in Africa can now count on the commitment of a new Italian company, Future Time, partner with ESET NOD32, one of the leading manufacturers of antivirus software. Future Time will support the AMREF’s Schools Project, for the construction, in 2013, of school, sanitation and water infrastructure, in the Magarini district in Kenya. Every year, AMREF supports over 13,000 children in Africa through its training projects for local health workers, education and sanitation assistance and rehabilitation of homeless children, providing a significant contribution to the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals. The Magarini district is one of Kenya’s rural areas, with little access to clean water; and in which, due to the inadequacy or absence of sanitation and education infrastructure, the spread of disease and infection affects the children’s growth and contributes to the increase of school absenteeism (despite the free and compulsory primary education, sanctioned in 2003 by the local government). The situation is even more alarming considering that the average age of the population in Kenya is 18 years and that 43% of the population is under the age of 15. “AMREF is very pleased to participate in Future Time’s virtuous path towards social responsibility: a road that we undertake together, and hope to walk for many years ahead, into the heart of Africa, where hundreds of children will become, with AMREF and Future Time, precious human capital for the continent’s development,” said Sara Proietti, relationships with companies manager for AMREF Italy Onlus. “We chose AMREF because it embodies the values of transparency, innovation, sustainability and responsibility which, as a company, we are inspired to – says Paolo Monti, founder of Future Time. “We firmly believe in this project, as it involves the school structure in the dissemination of correct sanitary and hygienic behavior. The latter is a driving force for the growth of the local population, as well as a powerful tool for reducing child mortality. Our contribution is small but concrete, and it aims to build a partnership with AMREF for long-term,” explains Emanuele Rammella, CEO of Future Time.
