Feb. 12 – During the Internal Meeting of SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research) held in Madrid, Enav accepted the award in the “Best Validation Exercise 2013” category for its validation activities conducted and developed in collaboration with Airbus, Selex-ES, Thales and Honeywell. The project, called Airborne Spacing – Sequencing and Merging, aims to manage the flow of traffic with innovative procedures that allow the spacing of pairs of aircrafts whose trajectories are common or converging on a common point. In this way it is possible to achieve a substantial reduction in the tactical controller’s intervention in terminal areas and significantly improve the workload during the initial approach phase. The central purpose of the Single European Sky is to adjust the airspace traffic flows management by providing carriers with shorter fuel-efficient routes that are time associated with the highest standards of safety. “I would like to recall that the validation exercise of the winning project – said the CEO of ENAV, Massimo Garbini – involved a multidisciplinary team of about 70 players between controllers, pilots, human factors experts and technicians. In addition, it was carried out with professionalism and cooperation through the entire pre-integrated industrial platform, composed of ground segments at Enav, and two flight simulators provided by ENAV and Airbus systems equipped with Airborne Spacing.” This year the meeting was held as part of the SESAR ATM World Congress in Madrid, the most important exhibition dedicated to service providers and the industry of air traffic control, to be held from today until Thursday, February 14.
