Mar. 5 – Tonight and tomorrow, Residenztheater / Marstall Theater in Munich (Germany), will stage “The evening at Colonus” by Elsa Morante, directed by Mario Martone. The show stars Carlo Cecchi (Oedipus), Antonia Truppo (Antigone), Angelica Ippolito (Sister). Carlo Cecchi and Mario Martone, forty-five years after its publication, will perform for the first time Elsa Morante’s piece. “It is her only work for theater, inspired by Oedipus at Colonus by Sophocles, but it has never been staged,” says Cecchi, who was Morante’s close friend. Morante lived, one might say, in symbiosis with the Grand Theatre, the legendary theater company directed by Cecchi in the late 60s and 70s; in turn Cecchi has been the curator, with Cesare Garboli, of two Meridiani volumes collecting Morante’s works. The artistic cast includes Oscar winner Nicola Piovani, author of the music, and Sergio Tramonti, regular contributor to Martone for more than ten years, both linked to the experience of the Grand Theatre. The Einaudi publishing house, in honor of the theatrical debut of the piece, published it in its Theatre Collection.
