Mar. 21 – In 2012, exports of Lombard food products grew by 5% in one year, worth nearly €4 billion. Main destinations are France (16%) and Germany (13%), but among the main recipients there are also the United States (6%). Exports to China are still fairly low, even though they almost doubled in a year. Among the provinces, Milan is first with over a billion exports, followed by Pavia and Mantua with nearly half a billion. The region exports milk and cheese, meat products and processed and preserved bakery products. This is what emerges from an elaboration of the Chamber of Commerce of Milan on Istat data (on the fourth quarter of 2012 and 2011). “The theme of food – said Carlo Franciosi, President of Coldiretti Lodi Milan and Monza Brianza and director of the Chamber of Commerce of Milan – affects the daily habits of citizens and their quality of life. And takes on an even greater importance in view of Expo 2015, where Milan will not only speak of food but also of acceptance and geographical knowledge, agriculture and culture, international scenarios and small towns. It will be a glocal, global and local approach to offer a vision of the reality that changes and adapts well to the new times we are living.”
