Apr. 25 – Until September, the Louvre Museum in Paris puts on display Michelangelo Pistoletto, “Année Un: Le Paradis sur terre.” With the Italian artist, the Louvre is inaugurating a new series of exhibitions dedicated to contemporary artists. Of all the invited artists, Pistoletto, from Biella, is undoubtedly the one that queries more closely the different moments in time: the past captured in the Museum’s collection, the mirrors capturing the present and the visitors, and the future symbolized by the Third Heaven, through a monumental work created specifically for the Louvre. The exhibition can be viewed from today until September 2, and it marks the transition to a new era of a human, social, cultural, and political transformation, celebrated around the world on December 21, 2012 via various installations and performances, including the one in the Cour Napoleon of the Louvre. Pistoletto’s works allow for a dialogue with the history of’ art, and embodies the meeting of different civilizations: from his early Mirror Paintings, which invite us to reflect on the function of the painting and question our perspective, up to his last works, such as The Mirror of Judgement, Pistoletto forces the audience to face our responsibility towards human evolution and invites us to become one with the piece of art.
