June 13 – The American Law and Society Association has awarded the International Scholar 2013 Award to Professor David Nelken, dean of the department of political science, communication and international relations at the University of Macerata. The teacher was unanimously chosen “for the outstanding record of publications in sociology of law, comparative law, comparative criminal law, studies on the judiciary and the theory of ‘law and society,’ during a glorious career as a scholar and pioneer of law and society, making him one of the most distinguished international scholars of law and society.” The award, which was presented a few days ago during the annual convention in Boston, is further recognition for the research and teaching of Professor Nelken, who also received this year the title of Doctor Legum – LLD – from the University of Cambridge. The LLD is an advanced degree granted on the basis of publications containing important and original contributions.
