July 25 – Audiences from around the world are already familiar with Giuseppe Verdi’s edition of “Nebuchadnezzar” conducted by the Maestro Riccardo Muti, who is back at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. The show, first staged in March of 2011 under the direction and scenography of Jean-Paul Scarpitta and costumes by Maurizio Millenotti, represented, in both its public and critical triumph, the key celebratory moment of the Italy’s 150th anniversary since Unification. The images of “Va pensiero” and the encore that followed, granted by Maestro Muti, were the most viewed online in 2011. The universal value of this drama, one of the most popular stories in the world, is contained in the “Va pensiero” chorus, a music page that wrote the political history of Italy’s Risorgimento. “Nebuchadnezzar,” after the Roman success, will leave for the Salzburg Festival, where it will be performed in concert form on August 29, 31 and again on September 1.
