July 30 – Much more than a calendar, closer to a work of art, the 2014 Di Meo Calendar will be presented on Oct. 26 at the National Museum in Warsaw. The 2014 edition still bears the signature of the photographer Listri, author of the 2013 calendar dedicated to the churches of Naples. For years, tradition has it that the calendar is dedicated to a city with great cultural traditions: this year the entrepreneur-patron Generoso Di Meo has chosen Warsaw for a calendar in which the comparison between the eighteenth-century Italian painter Bernardo Bellotto’s paintings of the city and Listri’s contemporary eye. The two masters will come together in the 2014 calendar, entitled “Memory and Future”, which will be introduced by art critic Vittorio Sgarbi. Warsaw is a city “that is undergoing profound changes,” says Generoso Di Meo, the man behind “Di Meo Wine and Art,” explaining the choice of the Polish capital. “Rich and strange avant-garde galleries, research theaters, new, original, neon, or contemporary art museums. At the same time – says Di Meo – the city isn’t denying its past: there are museums dedicated toChopin and Marie Curie, the Museum of the Jews, the Uprising, the Royal Castle, the national museum, the buildings of the ‘50s that today represent the architecture of a system that still maintains a certain charm. Warsaw is the core – concludes Di Meo – of a nation rich in history and passion, loving freedom and culture, a city projected into the future thanks to the solid cultural traditions of its past.”
