July 30 – A huge success captured in over ten minutes of applause for Giuseppe Verdi’s “Falstaff” conducted by Zubin Mehta and directed by Damiano Michieletto last night at the Salzburg Festival. The Haus für Mozart loved the show set in a resting home for musicians in Milan, in which the themes of melancholy and senility are always present, accompanied by the most dynamic and entertaining comedy. “I am delighted for the welcome given to this edition of ‘Falstaff’ – said Michieletto at the end of the show – whose story unfolds like a dream, a memory, or a joke, in which the protagonist, played by Ambrogio Maestri, sees life flash before his eyes.” The director will also return to the Salzburg Festival next year, for the third consecutive year, with Rossini’s “Cinderella,” performed by Cecilia Bartoli. After the “Falstaff,” Michieletto will be shooting scenes for Rossini’s “Scala di seta”, at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan in September, and later he will collaborate in the new production of Mozart’s “Idomeneo,” staged in November at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna.
