Aug. 6 – There is a profound link between the Swiss countryside and some Italian artists. In particular, the landscapes of Morcote appear on the canvas of several Italian artists, a town in the canton of Ticino, overlooking Lake Lugano. Among the artists who celebrated the most of the city, there is painter Simone Butturini, always enchanted by the village. In his works, the landscapes of Lake Lugano, muffled by an intimate atmosphere in which the light draws nature’s profiles, emerge. And now Morcote celebrates Butturini and other Italian painters with an exhibition that will be inaugurated on August 10 in the Gallery Poma. The group was strongly supported by the dealer and collector Paolo Poma, who selected fifty works by Marcello Iras Baldessari, star of the Futurist period; Gianni Dova, a friend of Picasso’s; Paolo Frosecchi, Piero Manzù Minguzzi, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Edmondo Dobranski, Giuseppe Foglia… ” Morcote is located in a particularly charming area of Ticino – says Paolo Poma. With such natural beauty, it isn’t surprising that European painters found here the ideal breeding ground for expressing their art. In fact, as early as the 15th century, artists attended in Morcote the first painting school founded in Ticino, and with their art, these artists later traveled to many European cities and the Middle East.”
