Aug. 13 – Of all bad cliches about Italy, the one about it being dangerous for foreign female tourists has been discredited by various European studies. According to these, personal safety is more important than vacation costs and Italian cities remain among the safest in the world, surpassing other prestigious tourist locations. A TripAdvisor survey shows that tourists consider Rome safer than London, overall confirming a positive trend for Italy detected by “PagineSi” socio-economic observatory, that interviewed 800 female tourists between the ages of 18 and 55, and made a ranking of the safest cities. First comes Riccione, not surprising a result after the success of “pink night;” the second place goes to Jesolo, in Veneto, appreciated mainly by German tourists; followed by Piedmont’s Stresa. The other cities figuring in the top 10 are Lignano Sabbiadoro in fourth place, considered safe by German tourists, and Alghero, in fifth place, quickly followed by Viareggio. Taormina and Capalbio, in Tuscany, claim the 7th and 8th places, followed by Positano. The structures, hotels and beach facilities are the most appreciated factors taken into account by female tourists, defined as safe, clean and constantly monitored places. New means of transport, like taxis, buses and trains are also appreciated, while most admit to feeling safe in bars, restaurants, and streets in various cities.
