Oct. 10 – Bavaria’s interest in Italian products it incontrovertible, and the proof is the success of the Gala Italia, held recently in Munich to promote Italian culture and art abroad. “All about Italy,” the magazine dedicated to Italian excellence published in three countries: Germany, the U.S. and China, is the founder and organizer of Gala Italy. This year’s edition of the Gala received prestigious institutional recognition by Giorgio Napolitano; the President of the Republic conferred a medal of honor to the event as a sign of recognition for its promotional activities abroad. The event was also sponsored by Italian institutions based in Munich, such as the Consulate General, directed by the plenary minister Filippo Scammacca del Murgo, and the Italian Cultural Institute and the Italian Chamber of Commerce. The agreement provided for the exclusive performance of “Tableaux Vivants” by Caravaggio and his students, performed by the theater group Teatri35 ( www.teatri35.it ). The Munich orchestra “Ensemble für Alte und Neue Musik” and soprano Stephanie Krug performed Italian baroque music together, creating a fascinating encounter between painting and music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. “The masterpieces of the Baroque years have been recreated on stage through evocative images – says artistic director Annunziata De Paola – The musical accompaniment immersed the viewers in a world of Italian culture and art.”
