Oct. 21 – Le Marche and Russia strengthen their ties thanks to the sea, cuisine, historic villages, monasteries and abbeys, and beautiful landscapes: all that the Marche region has to offer and that the Russians appreciate. Based on data available on August 31, the percentage of Russian tourists who visited the Marche has increased by more than +72 % in arrivals and +63 % in visitors compared to the same period of 2012. In terms of numbers there are 8,694 arrivals and 37,400 presences more than in 2012, for a total of 21,423 arrivals and 96,915 certified attendances. These are extraordinary numbers that led the Italian region to intensify and expand their tourism branch dedicated to Russia. “Le Marche has a huge potential to accommodate tourism from Russia; they can offer very attractive, highly demanded, tourism packages,” said the Minister of Russian Tourism, Alexander Radkov, during an official visit last July in San Benedetto del Tronto, in the context of initiatives related to the 2013-2014 Year of Cross-Country Tourism with the Russian Federation. The meeting confirmed the strong link between the Marche and Russia and with this encouragement the Marche Region participated in a mission organized by ENIT (the Italian National Tourism Agency) with an institutional and economic delegation headed by Chairman Gian Mario Spacca. The Marche region was the first region allowed to commence promotional activities in the country by the Italian Embassy in Moscow within the framework of the International Year of cross- promotional tourism activities. The region thus set up a “multiple impact” promotion and investment project through road shows, cultural activities, commercial events for food and wine, as well as communication and advertising. “Le Marche – said the President of the Region, Gian Mario Spacca – has invested with great determination to make its excellence known to Russians, that the Region has dedicated particular attention to the different segments tourist and the numerous possibilities that the area offers: sea, mountains, culture, environment… Our region has a plural form of tourism and this is especially suited to meet the demands of the Russians, who are fans of our territory.” In 2013, there was a very significant growth in tourism from Russia, the country that, with China and India, will generate the highest number of tourists worldwide, according to a report from Euromonitor 2013.
