Oct. 30 – “Playing in London was exciting and rewarding: we could get to know local musicians, meet friends who have moved here, fans of the genre, and other people, simply curious to hear our music. What impressed us most was their ability to listen and participate.” Dugong, a young jazz quartet from Milan, is happy of its experience in London. Nicola Ricci (tenor sax), Michele Caiati (electric guitar), Andrea Di Biase (bass) and Riccardo Chiaberta (drums) performed last night in the British capital to present their new album: “Miscommunication.” The album will be available in traditional stores, on iTunes and in the best digital stores from Saturday, November 9. “We realized even more that London is a melting pot – says the jazz group – where musicians and old friends randomly come together. After the concert we went to Ronnie Scott (a legendary jazz club in London where biggest names in the jazz and blues scene continue to play) where we performed right after Chris Potter, one of the best saxophonists in the contemporary jazz scene.” The group is enthusiastic and satisfied, and they are now getting ready for two new events: they will be in Milan on November 9 (at the Space Tadini), while Nov. 13 they will play in Bergamo (at the Druze Circus). The evenings of good music will be a perfect occasion to present to the public their latest musical efforts. “Miscommunication” contains 11 new tracks and breathes the atmosphere of the best works of contemporary jazz, like “Out Loud” by John Scofield ft . Medeski, Martin & Wood, “Deep Song ” by Kurt Rosenwinkel and “Invisible Cinema” by Aaron Parks. The songs have elements of jazz, rock (drawn from Nirvana’s grunge) and contemporary music. Apart from “After The Rain,” a ballad by John Coltrane, all the other songs were written by the band’s guitarist, Michele Caiati, and saxophonist Nicola Ricci. Dugong is a fairly recent project, born in 2010 from an idea by Caiati and Ricci. The two – respectively on guitar and tenor sax – collaborate with Andrea Di Biase, on the bass, and Riccardo Chiaberta, on the drums, forming a creative collective capable of taking multiple directions, starting from original material into the boundless field of improvisation. Each of the components individually boasts collaborations with the likes of Giovanni Falzone, Tino Tracanna, Achille Succi and Antonio Zambrini. The quartet offers a repertoire of original songs characterized by different influences, inspired by the New York scene, English alternative rock and classical music from the 19th century.
