Nov. 19 – The area adjacent to the Temple of Ceres, the National Archaeological Museum and the Early Christian Basilica are some the location at the center of the 16th edition of Borsa Mediterranea del Turismo Archeologico, which came to an end yesterday in Paestum. The event is a unique international event of its kind: a place for study and dissemination for tourism and cultural heritage, as well as an opportunity to meet for the insiders, traders, travelers and enthusiasts from Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, the UK and even from Israel. Buyers gathered in Paestum to meet with tour operators from all over the world, hauling 250 tourist hotels, travel agencies, consortia, and farms. The meetings showed that Israeli buyers – always attracted to Europe and the U.S. – are starting to look with more and more interested to Paestum, and its excavations and temples. 4,387,200 Israeli tourists travel the world yearly, and of these 492.000 spent the night in Italy in 2012. Among the destinations they prefer Italy is in fourth place, with a preference for Lazio, Lombardy and Veneto. From Tel Aviv, Ashkelon, Mevaseret ZionGivaataim, Migdal Haemek, and even Jerusalem, Israeli tourists book 3-5 star hotels, participate in conferences, in sports events, organized tours, fairs, food and wine tastings and traditional tourism. In particular, Eshet, a company based in Tel Aviv, is looking for destinations in southern Italy, for the winter and summer, preferred seasons for travelling.
