Feb. 7 – Arts, culture, gastronomy, festivals, nature, sports, leisure and well-being: Lago Maggiore’s tourist offer seems endless. The Lake, its valleys and its flowers participated in recent days in two important international trade fairs in the tourism sector: CMT Stuttgart and Matka Helsinki. CMT is the international trade fair for caravan holidays, the first major event of the year for German tourists, with sections devoted to caravans, golfing, wellness, hiking, cruises and cycling. This year’s edition was attended by 241.000 visitors, an all-time record for CMT – which registered its highest attendance rate in 2008, with 225.000 visitors. The Lago Maggiore representation, which has been attending the fair for the past seven years, occupied a space of 18 square meters. This year, for the first time, the tourist destination “Lago Maggiore” was also represented – with a dedicated stand of 12m² – at the Matka travel fair of Helsinki, Finland. Attended by over 1,000 exhibitors from 81 different countries, the fair attracted 67.000 visitors. Matka is the most important tourism fair in the Nordic countries and the locals showed strong interest for Lago Maggiore: the main requests concerned mountain, golf and culture activities.
