Mar. 12 – Mozambique has a strategic geographical position, political stability and good regional and international relations, large availability of natural resources, legislation that encourages foreign investment and a steady growth in the economy – with GDP rising 7.2% in 2011 and 7.9% in 2013. Overall, Mozambique is an ideal country for Italian companies looking to invest abroad, and this is what the CNA – National Confederation of Crafts and Small and Medium Enterprises – tried to explain this morning with the conference “Mozambique, the roots of the future.” “There is no internationalization without correct information and training – said the vice president of CNA, Giorgio Aguzzi, explaining the meaning of the convention – Before venturing into new markets, it’s absolutely necessary to gather the right information.” “Mozambique is a country that in the short term may offer great opportunities,” said Antonio Franceschini, head of the Office for Internationalization of the CNA. “In particular in the construction and infrastructure sectors, as well as hotel supplies, agricultural engineering and consumer goods. It is important to invest now so as to be in the best position possible in four or five years.” Mariaconcetta Giorgi, the Directorate-General for Internationalization Policies of the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE), said that Mozambique “is the African country with which Italy is working the most.” In fact, last August, thanks to the Ministry of Economic Development-Ministry of Foreign Affairs collaboration, Italy organized a mission to Mozambique which led the way for a new ICE office in the capital, Maputo. “In mid-May, led by Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda – explained Giovanni Sacchi, director of ICE – there will be a second mission involving about a hundred persons, including companies, associations and banks.” To date, the exchange between Italy and Mozambique moves about €350 million, with Italian exports at €50 million and imports from Mozambique at €300 million – especially of raw materials. “But the recent discovery of gas by Eni – continued Sacchi – brought €400 million in investments, which will increase in the future.”
