London – Almost one year ago, Italy formally complained about the sale of “wine counterfeiting” production kits that sought to recreate in powder Italy’s most prestigious wines. The complaint led to Interpol intervention to stop their trade in Europe; but the “wine powder” inventors escaped the laws by simply changing the names with new and imaginatively ones: Barolo is now Barollo, Brunello di Montalcino is Montecino, Valpolicella is Vinoncella, Chianti is Cantia… The Coldiretti denounced this new practice during Vinitaly in Verona, where its Service Center Arena stand between halls 6 and 7 presented the most glaring examples of counterfeit products that avoid regulatory sanctions at the expense of Italian products sold in the UK.
