Apr. 8 – Italian wine consumption in Germany and the UK is set to grow in the near future, the wine industry group Mondodelvino signs new distribution agreements in the UK and Germany with Morrison, Kaufland, and Marks & Spencer. The agreements will bring 3 million bottles to the target countries and €5 million in revenues. The group predicts that sales will exceed 26 million bottles, for a value of €37 million (+15%) due to increased consumer loyalty. In fact, Germans and Britons make up for 42% of the total volume consumed. In the past years, consumption has gone “from one in six families consuming Italian wines at least once a year, to one in three families,” says managing director Alfeo Martini, who also stressed product innovation and the broader range of wines sold around the world. “For the last two harvests, the great Italian wineries developed through innovative techniques six new red wines (Asio Otus, Luna Argenta, Soprasasso, Barone Montalto, Ammasso and Rinforzo), able to satisfy the curiosity of young consumers and increase their loyalty. This condition is further strengthened by growing and durable collaborations with great local distribution channels: Sainsbury, Waitrose, Tesco, Coop Uk, Asda, Edeka, Metro, Rewe, as well as new partners, such as Morrison, Kaufland, and Marks & Spencer. Combined, these elements reinforce even more the value of Italian wine on the European market.”
