Sydney – Claudio Pelizzeni is a 32 year-old former banker, passionate about traveling and suffering from type 1 diabetes for the past 24 years. Claudio has always had the dream of being able to travel around the world without using airplanes and he intends to make his dream come true now, despite the disease. The idea behind “TripTherapy” is to use traveling as a therapy; a constantly monitored and assisted travel, as Dr. Stefano Genovese, Head of the Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases – IRCCS MultiMedica Sesto San Giovanni, will follow Pelizzeni’s every move, controlling and analyzing his glucose level as physical activity and foods change. “TripTherapy” will begin on Sunday and it will aim for Australia, Italy’s polar opposite. Pelizzeni will face a journey of about 48 thousand km, passing through 14 countries and lasting 8/9 months, across Ukraine, Russia, China, Tibet and Nepal, down to India, Thailand, and Indonesia, where he hopes to find a place on a commercial ship headed to Australia.
