May 6 – “Nice and well done” products generally occupy the medium-high range, standing out for design, the quality of materials, and workmanship. And “beautiful and well made” products from Italy are increasingly appreciated abroad: the food sector, furniture, apparel, textiles, footwear, eyewear, and jewelry. This is what emerges from the Centro Studi Confindustria and Prometeia research presented yesterday at the fifth annual research meeting on “Exporting la dolce vita.” According to the survey, by 2019 emerging countries will import more than €212 billion of beautiful and well made products, for a €66 billion increase compared to 2013 (or 45% in six years). More than a third of the additional demand will come from Russia, the UAE and China, while Asia will be the most dynamic in terms of percentage variations, with a 57% increases in six years. Italian exports will reach €16.6 billion in 2019, for a €4.8 billion increase compared to 2013, of +40% in six years. The growth of purchases in these range of products is also driven by the expansion of the middle-high income sectors of society. It is estimated that in 2019, worldwide, 202 million new rich will join those of 2013. Half of them will reside in major urban centers in China, India and Brazil, although the affluent class is also expanding in countries closer to Italy, such as Russia. Russia is currently the most important emerging market for Italian exporters.
