May 13 – Umbria and China have long been cooperating in different sectors: the economy, tourism, food safety, and now also art and cultural heritage. The numerous cooperation projects of the past led to the most recent meeting between institutional representatives from Umbria and China, held in the headquarters of the Regional Council of Palazzo Donini in Perugia. The representatives of the Region welcomed a delegation from Shanxi (a province located in the northern part of the People’s Republic of China), interested in understanding better Umbria’s experience in conservation, restoration and the enhancement of cultural heritage. “The Shanxi Province and Shanxi Museum – explained the representatives of the Italia region – have an enormous cultural heritage reflected in hundreds of thousands of works, artifacts and buildings. This is an important asset of great value to be protected through the collaboration and experience of countries that have a long tradition in the field, such as Italy. The Umbria Region accepted the invitation of Shanxi Province to plan a mission aimed at identifying all potential operational collaboration fields.” For Umbria, the visit to China will be the moment to assess the feasibility of technological exchanges and training.
