Islamabad – Last week, the Italian Embassy in Islamabad held the celebrations for the 58 years of the Italian archaeological mission in Swat, the emblem of Italy’s commitment to enhancing local cultural heritage from the proto-historic period to the Buddhist period to the Islamic one. The ceremony, organized by the Italian ambassador, Adriano Chiodi, was attended by over 200 guests, including the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Tariq Fatemi, the President of the Parliamentary Italy – Pakistan Friendship Group, and the Deans of the two major local universities. The mission led the restoration of the giant Buddha in Jahanabad, whose face was blown up by the Taliban in 2007, and the construction of a large museum, inaugurated by Ambassador Chiodi last November.
