June 13 – Great music arrives in Ljubljana on July 7, when Maestro Riccardo Muti will conduct the Giuseppe Verdi Requiem: the sacred composition for choir, soloists and orchestra, composed in 1874 and first performed for the first anniversary of Alessandro Manzoni’s death in Milan’s San Marco Church. The upcoming event – organized by the Ljubljana Festival in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute – will be held at 9pm in Congress Square. The Maestro will conduct the Cherubini Youth Orchestra (an orchestra he founded in 2004 made up of 600 young Italian musicians selected by an international commission) and the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra. Performances by the soprano Tatiana Serjan, the mezzo-soprano Daniela Barcellona, the tenor Saimir Pirgu and the bass Riccardo Zanellato are also expected alongside musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Fondazione Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, the Philarmonic Orchestra of St. Petersburg, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre Symphonique du Théatre Royal de la Monnaie, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Wiener Phliarmoniker. The performing choir comes from Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Fondazione Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi.
