June 16 – “Condominio Occidentale” is a special play: it brings together 16 blind actors. Adapted from a novel by Paola Musa, which received the Chàmbery Premier Roman prize and the Primo Romanzo Città di Cuneo in 2009, the play exposes the stereotypes on disabilities and social issues, such as domestic violence, poverty, solitude and unkempt social promises. The play made its debut four years ago in Rome, and has since received numerous awards (including one from the President of the Republic). “Condominio Occidentale” makes its European debut tonight at the Babel F.A.S.T international theater festival in Targoviste (located in the Romanian district of Dâmboviţa). After Romania, the theater company will perform in Germany, France and Spain. “This is a new opportunity – says the director Tiziana Sensi – to meet with other young people.” The play follows a dual perspective: that of social emergencies and that of disabilities and youth combined. “We’re happy to present our work in Europe, since our main theme, ‘new poverty’, is a common one to the region. The show is a way to raise awareness among the youths, so that the moments of exchange are open and not scary.”
