June 17 – The Umbrian Agriculture model was the focus of attention of a delegation from the Nordic country that traveled to Perugia. Their aim was to study the promotion, enhancement and quality of agricultural food production model of the region, which also seeks to develop organic and environmental protection. The Danish parliamentary committee for the agro-food policies delegation was led by MEP Orla Hav and Danish Ambassador to Italy, Birger Riis-Jorgensen; they arrived yesterday in Perugia, where they were welcomed in the Regional Government of Palazzo Donini by the Regional Agriculture Councilor, Fernanda Cecchini. During the meeting, Cecchini was accompanied by the Regional Coordinator for Agriculture, Ciro Becchetti, and the director of 3A-PTA, the regional agency in charge of agriculture, Andrea Sisti. The delegation engaged in a series of visits to companies and in meetings with Slow Food representatives, and the Faculty of Agriculture in Perugia. During the informal discussion with the delegation, Councilor Cecchini reported that “the Region of Umbria is very pleased to be able to share its experience wit other countries. Thanks to our commitment and investments over the years, quality certification and organic farming now ensure, throughout the production and marketing process, a balance between economic and commercial activities and environmental protection. Umbria has established a quality system that also boosts the tourism sector, combining culture, gastronomy and environment.” On behalf of the Danish delegation, Ambassador Birger Riis-Jorgensen, reported that “the experience in Umbria has been of particular interest to learn of best practices that we could apply in our country to promote a quality food production, respectful of the environment and with an ever greater attention to organic farming.”
