June 18 – Carnegie Hall, the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, the Symphony Center in Chicago, and then Hungary, Turkey, the Netherlands and even Australia: cellist Giovanni Sollima has brought his talent worldwide. The musician from Palermo may have performed as a soloist throughout the world, but he is also a skilled composer capable of combining different genres. Sollima is getting ready to perform in Poland where he will conduct the Orchestra “La Notte della Taranta.” During the Festival dei Giardini Musicali, Sollima and the Orchestra will perform in a celebratory concert to mark the beginning of the Italian Presidency at the European Union. Born in 2004, the orchestra “La notte della Taranta” is composed of thirty musicians and pizzica dancers from Salento. The relationship between Sollima and the Orchestra is a special partnership that was built during last year’s Concertone di Melpignano when Salento’s folk tradition and the experience of the Sicilian classical cellist merged. On June 30 at 7pm, the Royal Castle in Warsaw will host the event sponsored by the Ogrody Muzyczne Foundation in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture, the Embassy of Italy, Ferrero, Salini Polska, Astaldi, PKP Intercity, and No Limit logistyka. The guest of honor of the evening will be Andrea Luca Lepore, in charge of Affairs at the Italian in Warsaw.
