June 23 – “Totemica” is a Canadian show by Italian designer Luca Nichetto and Russian designer Lera Moiseeva: the exhibition, held at the Italian Cultural Institute of Toronto in collaboration with the Mjolk Gallery, will open on June 26 and run until September 16. For the two designers, Canada and Toronto are like home: their first project – “Sucabaruca” – was on display at the Mjolk Gallery during the Design Festival 2014. “Sucabaruca” is a coffee set made of Canadian materials and assembled by a group of artisans in Toronto led by ceramicist Alissa Coe. The design aroused great interest in the sector, with a number of articles written on the project, and many prizes from the Juror’s Choice Award as the Best Show in Design Week. “Totemica” is a continuation of the collaborative work between Nichetto and Moiseeva, this time engaged in launching the world premiere of “Aureola”, a tea set that comes as a complement to the coffee set. Aureola blends different cultures (Italian, Asian, Russian and Canadian) and bring them together in Canadian clay, pigments, and wood. The exhibition will unveil the creative process that led to the creation of both sets, and demonstrate the production stages. Nichetto, Moiseeva, Mjolk and Adriana Frisenna, director of the Italian Cultural Institute, will all be there for opening night.
