June 26 – A new international recognition to the University of Parma in the field of dermatology has arrived with the “Parma branded” European guidelines on bullous pemphigoid, a rare skin disease. Claudio Feliciani, professor of dermatology and skin and venereal diseases at the University, and medical director at the Ospedale Maggiore, had been commissioned by the scientific “European Dermatology Forum” to coordinate an international group to draw up guidelines for autoimmune bullous pemphigoid. Feliciani worked for about three years to the project, with the guidelines playing an increasingly important role in clinical practice. Written by various experts, the guidelines serve to standardize the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, and have proven to be especially useful to non-expert doctors who are treating patients suffering from the disease.
