July 14 – Dante dances in Malta, at the Italian Cultural Institute in Valletta. On Tuesday, July 22 (11 am), the Institute will present the contemporary dance show “Divina,” produced by Naupaca Dance Factory. The young but well established Maltese dance company has worked closely with Italy and other foreign actors to bring to the show the best assets possible. The show will be introduced Joelene Tabone, founder, director and choreographer of the Naupaca and guest star of the show, and Italian dancer Francesco Mariottini. For the company’s 10th anniversary, the Naupaca Dance Factory decided adapt and create a dance choreography inspired by the “Divine Comedy” by Dante. “Conceived as the initiatory path of man in search of its origins – reads a statement by the IIC – the Divine Comedy is a universal symbolic language that conceals secrets still echoing in the verses of the Supreme poet. The show ‘Divine’, just as Virgil does in the books, will lead the audience in the ‘middle’ of Dante’s poem.” “Divine” will be staged in October as one of the initiatives of the “Week of the Italian Language in the World,” at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta (October 18) and the Aurora Opera House in Victoria Gozo (Malta) October 24.
