July 15 – It’s a moment of great satisfaction for the Vucciria Teatro: a year ago, it received the prize for “Best Drama,” which went to Joele Anastasi, and for “Best Actor,” which went to Henry Sortino at the Roma Fringe Festival. Only a year later, Vucciria Teatro presented “Io mai niente con nessuno avevo fatto” at the San Diego International Fringe Festival, winning and bringing back Italian theater on the American stage. “Italy’s independent theater – reads a note – is not only able to cross national borders while still using the Italian language, but it is also able to win over the public and critics overseas. Intelligent, committed shows, with reasoned dramatic notes and excellent actors can win abroad.” “In Italy, there’s a big debate on local forms of excellence and on how to revive Italian culture,” stressed the Roma Festival Fringe organizers, partners of the San Diego Fringe and co-producers of the show, “and theater can be a way of exporting our culture abroad, without losing the cultural-specific features, but rather using them as an asset.” In 2015, other winners of the Rom Festival Fringe, will perform on international stages, such as Accura Teatro, who will perform “Taddrarite” (directed by Luana Rondinelli, with Claudia Gusman Luana Rondinelli, and Anna Clara Giampino).
