Aug. 12 – “Beauty of Basilicata” is a documentary starring Luigi Diotiaiuti, founder of the restaurant “Al Tiramisu” that has conquered the palates of all Italian cuisine lovers in Washington DC. And today Diotaiuti was selected in the culinary staff of the Department of State of the United States. His is a story of tradition and talent, passion for the culinary arts and their origins. His story is told in the documentary, which will be screened tonight at Pisticci (Matera), within the “Lucania Film Festival.” The event (sponsored by the Regional Department of Agriculture) will see the participation of the chef, who was born in the Lagonegro municipality, in the province of Potenza. He will discuss the film, Italian cuisine and how to approach it in a modern and international manner. The documentary – which recounts the experience of the chef in Washington – is the perfect occasion to reflect on the strong relationship between food and cinema as an explosive combination to promote a particular territory. In the early 1990s, Diotiaiuti graduated high school and enrolled in the Professional Culinary Institute of Maratea. He then moved to the United States, where he opened “Al Tiramisu.” The restaurant is in Dupont Circle and is distinguished by professionalism, quality and taste, and can say it feeds both politicians and actors. Diotaiuti is now a culinary ambassador for typical Basilicata products, who received the praise of Secretary of State John Kerry during a speech on the USA Pavilion at Expo2015.
