Aug. 20 – As Slam season draws to an end, those competing in the US Open are waiting to know who will access the main draw, beating the qualifying round. In the meantime, the 32 seeded players of the tournament were announced. Because Nadal, defending champion, and Del Potro forfeited, Fabio Fognini gains two positions on his current ranking, entering the tournament at number 15, improving over last year’s seed position at Flushing Meadows. This is a small advantage for the San Remo native, the only Italian player in the seeding, who hopes to revive the excellent performance given during the Cincinnati Master, where he was eliminated at the quarter finals by Raonic, seed number 5. This year, Fognini’s goal is to pass the first round of the US Open, as last year the 27 year old lost during his debut match against Rajeev Ram.
