San Francisco – These are the last days to see the “Turkish Slave”, the masterpiece of 1534 Girolamo Francesco Maria Mazzola, known as Parmigianino, at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, on loan from the National Gallery of Parma. It is the first overseas trip of the enigmatic masterpiece that has already made a stop at the Frick Collection in New York. Celebrated as one of the founders of Mannerism, Parmigianino developed an expressive style by elongated forms also influenced by the work of Raphael and Michelangelo. The title of the work derives from the elegant leap, headgear worn by noblewomen in northern Italy, which was later confused with a turban. (9Colonne)
