Oct. 30 – A red thread connects Marseille to Torre del Greco, a thread made of coral. “Coral and Caroline Murat’s years in Naples” is the title of a special event launched by the Italian Institute of Culture in Marseille. Scheduled for Thursday, November 6 at 6pm, there will be a debate on the value, history and characteristics of the noble and ancient art of crafting corals, which in Torre del Greco has been taught for centuries from father to son. At 7:30pm, a show will bring together history, documents, art and jewelry. Promoted by the Institute in collaboration with the Association euroméditerranéenne pour l’histoire de l’art et l’esthétique, the event focuses on the ‘red gold’ of the Mediterranean and its crafting techniques. Historian Filomena Maria Sardella will hold a conference on “Jewels of red coral: how Caroline Murat and Carolina Maria de Bourbon changed tastes.” While another historian, Caterina Ascione, will explore the theme of “a common thread between Marseille and Torre del Greco: crafting coral from Martin to the present day.” (Gil)
