Nov. 3 – Bangkok’s National Theatre will soon welcome puppeteers of worldwide fame for the ”2014 Harmony World Puppet Carnival.” The most important festival of puppets in the world will bring together 150 theater companies from 80 different countries. And in all this, Italy, too, will have a space of its own thanks to the Cantieri Koreja from Lecce and the Compagnia del Teatro Verde from Rome, which will go on staged tonight. The Company (under the artistic direction of Veronica Olmi) has just celebrated its first 35 years of successes: 35 years in which kings and queens, witches and wizards, spells, monsters, dragons, talking animals, and heroes of all kinds took to the stage. In the Thai event, the Company will present the play “Una volta c’era un re… dieasis,” written by Andrea Calabretta. The show was staged for the first time in Moscow in September 2008, and was replicated in Tunisia, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and Azerbaijan. “Once upon a time” – this is the English title – is directed by Francesco Mattioni and stars Andrea Calabretta, Veronica Olmi, Emanuele Caiati, Anna Alfonsi, Barbara Tirelli and Mattioni. The puppets, dolls and figures come from the Signorelli collection and from Alessandra Ricci, Isabella Montani and Susanna Mattiangeli. The lighting and sound are by Enrico Biciocchi. Participating in the Harmony World Puppet Carnival is for the Company a further recognition of the high quality of its performances staged throughout the years. “Irony, generosity and desire to have fun: these are the elements that inspire us to carry out rigorous work, which in turn breed the creation of shows such as this one – commented the director – I hope it will entertain the audience, at least as much as it has amused me in creating it.” (red)
