Nov. 18 – “Figlie di Scheherazade – Storie di donne. Raccontare per salvarsi la vita” is a play written, directed and performed by Chiara Casarico and Tiziana Scrocca. The play, dedicated to women around the world, will go on stage in Marseille thanks to the local Italian Institute of Culture on 25 November (at 6pm) in occasion of the International Day Against Violence Against Women. Scheherazade is the slave who, in “Arabian Nights,” tells tales to the Sultan to save her life. She uses narration as a weapon to defend herself; words and expressions are a way to raise awareness and share her testimony. How many nights and how many stories do women share all over the world? “Figlie di Scheherazade” is the true story of two young women (Aysha, who was born in Germany to Turkish parents, and Zoya, an Afghan refugee in Pakistan) who tell their stories, so that other women will one day live in better conditions. The original score was composed specifically for the show. The stories unfold thanks to the voice of singer Rosie Wiederkehr – from the well-known group Agricantus – and Ruth Bieri, a Swiss keyboard player, composer and founder of the first women’s school of music in Europe (in Zurich). The play is an emotional synthesis of the two stories. The show won the Rai Radio Microfono di Cristallo and was a finalist at the Ustica Awards for Theatre and the International Festival of Lugano.
