Nov. 27 – From Giffoni Valle Piana to Doha, the mission is still the same: bringing closer together cinema and youths worldwide. The Doha Film Experience – involving 450 young jurors from around the world – is the main initiative of the second edition of the Ajyal Youth Film Festival (scheduled for Dec. 1-6 in the Qatari capital). The initiative was developed “through the Doha Film Institute in partnership with Giffoni Experience, one of the first and most successful film festival for kids in the world,” reminds us Fatma Al Remaihi, director of Ajyal Youth Film Festival. “Ajyal’s competitive sections are based on the Giffoni model and jurors will participate in a spirit of mutual cultural exchange.” The objective of the Doha Film Experience is to provide children with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of cinema and filmmaking, in a fun environment where they have a chance to express their thoughts and ideas. During the Doha Film Experience, children aged 8 to 21 will watch and analyze films in three competitive sections – Mohaq, Hilal, and Bader – followed by debates and events such as panels and workshops with filmmakers and industry professionals. The jurors will vote their favorite movie. Of the 450 jurors, 25 are from 12 different countries (Australia, Bosnia – Herzegovina, Canada, Italy, Kuwait, Macedonia, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Thailand, Tunisia and the UAE). (Red)
