Dec. 11 – Higher education courses by the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa (SSSA) expand thanks to the course hosted in Cairo (December 14-19) for civilian officials of the African Union mission in Somalia (AMISOM). The SSSA is helping train the officials of this mission, adding a new, important course to the activities conducted by Andrea de Guttry (Professor of International Law, recently elected director of Dipolis – Law, Politics, Development) through the International training program for conflict management. Said course counts 25 years of activity and is renowned worldwide for its prestige. The African Union Mission in Somalia sees the participation of over 15 000 African soldiers, 200 police officers, and 300 civilians and was entrusted with the task of helping Somalia during the transition towards “sustainable peace”. The course offered by Sant’Anna builds into the numerous training initiatives, many of which are promoted by the Italian government, to facilitate the peace process in the country. Among these initiatives, we should mention the military training mission of the European Union, under the responsibility of General Mingiardi, former commander of the Folgore Brigade, with which the International training program for conflict management directed by prof. de Guttry has had numerous collaborations. “The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna – comments de Guttry in announcing the course – has been chosen for this delicate and important task not only for the almost twenty years experience in the organization of higher education courses for personnel working in International missions in high risk areas, but also because it conducted multiple research projects on Somalia. Through its work, the SSSA enhanced the commitment of the international community to restore peace in this battered African country. For us – ends – this is further recognition for the work we have conducted in the apst twenty years in the field of training of international operators that contribute to the stabilization of the countries ravaged by war.” (Red)
