Jan. 7 – Umbria’s economy is giving positive signals on the export front, as orders increase for 2015, reveals the economic analysis carried out by the Observatory of Unioncamere Umbria on the nature and dynamics of imports and exports from 2008 to 2014. Exports in the field of Agriculture, in terms of Umbria’s share of the national total, almost doubled in the last three years (from 1.3% to 2.4%), meaning that Umbria now contributes almost 20% of the total for central Italy, competing with the strong agricultural regions of Tuscany, Lazio and Marche. Soaring exports also concern ICT services, for which the share has tripled compared to the Italian average, seeing Umbria move from 1.6% in 2007 to 11.4% in 2013 in the Central Italy share. “This is significant leap – explains the Observatory – although total volumes are still modest. The sector includes a broad scope of activities, from e-publishing to softwares, film productions, television, data processing, hosting and web portals.” The data on import / export activities of Umbria’s businesses with non-EU countries is also interesting. The data, derived from statistical processings of the Customs Agency and the Business Register of the Chambers of Commerce, shows that the top 10 non-EU countries are in order: the United States; Switzerland; Japan; Russia; China; Canada; Hong Kong; Australia; Korea and the United Arab Emirates.
