Jan. 12 – “From Making to Marketing” is a new course held in Daresalaam, Tanzania, by researchers of the Bioengineering Piaggio Centre of the University of Pisa and Pisa FabLab. The course saw the participation of 40 students and professors from universities in Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia and Ethiopia. The researchers, students and technicians of the Bioengineering Piaggio Center and Pisa Fablab believe that open source design of biomedical devices is intrinsically associated with the development of human skills, two essential requirements to improve healthcare in Africa. The bioengineers of the University of Pisa played a key role in the organization of the curriculum and consequent success of the Innovators Summer School of the University of Muhimibili in Daresalaam.
