Jan. 14 – “When I live for what I thought yesterday, I will begin to be afraid for those who copy me,” once said Fortunato Depero: painter, sculptor and advertising mogul. From painting to applied art, theater, advertising, Depero’s art represents one of the most original and dynamic moments of 20th century Italian art. After New York and Barcelona, it is now Madrid’s turn to discover the most eclectic of the Futurists. The Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid recently hosted a major exhibition: “Depero futurista. 1913-1950.” The Fundación Juan March exhibition will close on January 18, but on January 20 (at 8pm), the Institute is planning a meeting – promoted by the IIC in collaboration with the Fundación Juan March – with architect and modern art historian Maurizio Scudiero. The historian will illustrate literary, poetic, polemical, political and artistic aspects that shaped the art of the father of contemporary graphic design. Scudiero is author of a monograph on Depero – the most complete and rich in illustrations available today. The text explores the main stages of Depero’s creative evolution, and his intense human story with a lively and detailed narrative, which leaves ample space to original quotes from Depero’s manuscripts.
